Karine Decker Tackles Advanced Programs

Financial Programs Director Karine Decker has passed several advanced training programs that already are benefiting members of the Clay County Economic Development Council (EDC) and Midwest Small Business Finance (MSBF).

Decker has passed the entire four-part economic development training program provided by the National Development Council. This rigorous professional certification program is a four-course training series that explores the skills essential for the successful practice of economic development: business credit and real estate finance analysis techniques, loan packaging procedures, negotiating and problem solving skills and deal structuring techniques. Participants in the EDFP certification program build the capacity to translate development opportunities into results for their communities.

Earlier in 2007, Decker completed the National Association of Development Companies (NADCO) program, 504 Loan Closing. She also successfully completed the Heartland Economic Development Course, which offers intensive training in the basic concepts, information, methods, and strategies of local economic development. A diverse and experienced faculty, composed of both academicians and practitioners, gives an excellent blend of theory and practice. A graduation from Heartland fulfills one of the prerequisites for those who wish to take examinations for Certified Economic Development (CEcD) designation.

Decker joined the EDC in 2004 and took over as Financial Director of MSBF in June 2006. She holds a bachelors degree in economics from the University of Missouri Kansas City.
